SHERRIN RACING TAKES CLEAN SWEEP AT SMP

Sherrin Racing has clean-swept round two of the Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars with the #72 Sherrin Racing BMW M4, with Grant Sherrin qualifying on pole for APC outright and Class X before  Iain Sherrin went on to take all four race victories outright and in class.

Grant secured 3rd for the round in Class X, after taking home 4th and 2nd for APC outright in the first two races, and second in class X in race one and race two, before being taken out of the rest of the event by a GT4 Australia competitor mid-way through race three, while leading for APC outright and Class X.

“We had an awesome weekend with the #72 Sherrin Racing BWM M4,” Iain Sherrin said.

“It is a whole team effort, and I cannot thank the team enough for what has been a stellar performance this weekend.

“This has probably been my best ever round, and my first race clean-sweep, so it was just fantastic.

“The car was brilliant all weekend and the boys were amazing in our pit stops. I would have to say our pit stops were some of the fastest there. To come in and then get back out either in front of the A1 cars or just behind them, that was just amazing when we are doing two tyres and they are doing one.

“So, a lot of credit has to go to the boys and the strategy, and I had a bit of luck fall my way as well, but I will take it where I can get it! I am absolutely wrapped; it has been just an amazing weekend for me.

“It was definitely disappointing though to see what happened to Grant’s car, we were having a really good battle in that race, and he was my main opposition throughout the weekend. In the night race in particular we were close to each other for the whole race, and I only just managed to keep my nose in front of him, so I was really disappointed we couldn’t race like that again on Sunday afternoon. But he will bounce back, and it is a long season ahead, so don’t count him out!”

Grant Sherrin was happy to secure a podium position for class and some valuable championship points, even while lamenting the lost opportunities of the weekend.

“It was definitely not a great outcome for us in race three with a faster car in another category coming through and making a mistake, and it was a clear mistake from their side, to take me out,” Grant Sherrin said.

“We had kind of gotten the car into a really good spot set-up wise after we had been chasing some things in the earlier races on Saturday, and then we got taken out while I was leading for APC outright and Class X, so that was definitely disappointing.

“I was fine, and we had all we needed to fix the car, but unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time between race three and race four to get it done, so that was us out for the rest of the day.

“Up until then, it had definitely been good to be battling with Iain this weekend and he drove really well. He did a superb job with the car and his set-up, and I am very happy for him – he did very well to get a clean-sweep.

“I am looking forward to getting back into it at the next round at Queensland Raceway. In the meantime, thank you to all of our sponsors for their valued support and thank you also to the crew for their hard work. Sherrin Racing is a team effort, and every person has an important role to play, and we win and lose together. Everyone dug deep this weekend and I am so grateful for all their efforts.”
