SHERRIN RACING CELEBRATES CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING 2019 SEASON

From start to finish, the 2019 racing season was a successful one for the Sherrin Racing team, with every event the outfit contested ending with the team standing on the podium.

Across five rounds of the 2019 MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars season, the team brought home one outright round win, five class round wins, four outright race wins and 14 class race victories for a total of five championship trophies: Outright Champion, A1 Champion, A1 Runner-up, B1 runner-up and B1 third place.

The team also stood on the podium in the 2019 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour for the third time from four events, taking second outright and in class in the Sherrin Racing BMW M4 from the rear of the grid after winning the event the year prior.

“It has certainly been a rewarding year for Sherrin Racing,” Team Principal, Michael Sherrin, said.

“While we field four drivers across two cars in two classes, every single result is a team effort and every trophy is treated as a team’s trophy.”

Across the season, brothers Grant and Iain Sherrin steered the Class A1 #18 Sherrin Racing BMW M4 while Klae Eckhardt stepped up to driving duties in the Class B1 #19 Sherrin Racing BMW 135i alongside long-time team steerer, David Ayres.

“Grant and Iain as always did a fantastic job and I am of course very proud of their efforts as we have continued to develop the M4,” Michael said.

“I am also very pleased with Klae and David for what they have been able to achieve with the 19 this year. Klae was our spanner-man – and still is – but made the big step up to drive our yellow beast this year and while he is still learning his way, he has come along in leaps and bounds across the year.”

While no drivers can achieve alone without their crew, the Sherrin Racing team could not achieve what it has this year without the support of some very valued sponsors.

The team is supported on-track by Tyreright, Wirtgen Group, Kobelco, Hi-Tec Oils, JCB, Sherrin Group, Great White Lighting, Revolution Paint and Panel, Action Mechanical Specialists, Custom Plastic Fabrication, Symmetry Engineering, RNR Refinish, Welding Solutions, Hydraulink Brisbane North, Land Transport, Tex Onsite, and Industry iQ.

“As a team we have been very blessed to enjoy the support of some fantastic companies and we are so happy to have been able to deliver them a championship-winning result this year,” Michael said.

“Planning is already underway for our 2020 season which will again include the MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars and the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.

“Everyone can rest assured that we will be doing all we can in the MRF Tyres APC to not only defend our titles in 2020, but to bring home more race wins and hopefully a B1 championship as well! And when it comes to the Bathurst 6 Hour, we sure would like to return to the top step of that highly sought-after podium.

“In the meantime, on behalf of everyone at Sherrin Racing, I would like to send my thanks to each and every one of our sponsors and our fans for their support over the year as well as our fellow racers. It has been a fantastic 2019 and we can’t wait to do it all over again in 2020!”

Sherrin Racing will next be on-track for the 2020 MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars season-opener at Sydney Motorsport Park across March 6-8. For more information on the team, please visit www.sherrinracing.com.au
