It was another successful year of national competition for the Sherrin Racing team, with podium-getting results at every round of the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars season netting the team second outright and in class X for the championship and also the APC Enduro Cup.
Of the 25 APC races the team greeted the starter for across six rounds, they were celebrated in the top three 18 times outright and 21 times in class, including:
- Three outright race wins
- Nine outright race second places
- Six outright race third places
- Four class X race wins
- Eleven class X second places
- Six class X third places
- One outright round victory
- Three outright second places
- One outright third place
- Two class X round victories
- Two class X round second places
- One class X round third place
The season wasn’t without its trials however – the team originally started out 2024 with two cars, the much-loved red multi-championship winning #72 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4 driven by Iain Sherrin and the new-for-2023 yellow #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4 driven by Grant Sherrin. However, a heavy qualifying incident at round two at The Bend Motorsport Park saw the #72 permanently sidelined, and 2023 champion Iain Sherrin sharing the #27 with Grant for much of the remainder of the season as the team looked to keep their title hopes alive with this sole entry.
And keep those hopes alive they did – heading to the season finale with only a slim margin separating Grant and eventual title winners Dean Campbell and Cameron Crick in their new-for-2024 BMW M2, staying in the hunt until the final races of the year.
Outside of the Meguiar’s APC, Sherrin Racing was also once again on-track at the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, where it has claimed much success in the past – including the 2018 outright victory.
Aboard the #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4, Grant and Iain delivered a massive fightback from the very back (P58) of the field and three laps down after being turned around by another competitor on lap two, to bring home an incredibly impressive result of sixth outright and fourth in Class X.
“2024 was another huge year for Sherrin Racing,” Sherrin Racing Team Principal, Michael Sherrin, said.
“To take home wins and podium places at every APC event on the calendar is no easy feat and I can’t thank our team enough for their continued efforts – every event, and in between, they continuously dig down deep and bring their best no matter what curveballs are thrown at us, and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without their dedication, passion and enthusiasm driving us forward.
“I also must thank our valued sponsor group and our passionate supporters for their continued backing of our team and faith in what we are doing out there on the track.
“The Sherrin Rentals Fight in the Night at Queensland Raceway was a definite highlight with the boys bringing home the Class X victory in the three-hour enduro that bears the Sherrin Racing name, as was Grant’s outright and class X dominance at The Bend – although sadly that event certainly wasn’t as happy as it could have been given Iain’s heavy contact with the wall at high speed in the rain soaked qualifying. Thankfully he was okay, and that is the main thing.
“While we didn’t bring home the big APC championship trophy, we came so very close despite some significant obstacles which came our way at different points of the year, and I feel that we can look back on the year with pride.
“The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour really was one for the books also, bringing yet another one of those ‘anything can happen at Bathurst’ style stories to our team’s history.
“Being turned around so early was really disappointing, but the incredible fight back delivered by the boys and our crew across the following six hours was something truly amazing.
“There is no doubt about it, we do this as a team – win, lose or otherwise, it is a team effort and I couldn’t be more proud of our people and what we have achieved this year.”
