SHERRINS CLOSE OUT 2024 MEGUIAR’S APC SEASON ON THE TOP STEP

Sherrin Racing has ensured that the #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4 has ended its 2024 Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars season on the top step by taking the race four victory at the season-ending Bathurst International at the weekend.

That winning result combined with three earlier second places outright and in class X, which saw the team bring home second for the championship outright and in class for Grant, while Grant and Iain shared second outright and in class for the event overall.

Sherrin Racing also officially claimed the Meguiar’s APC Enduro Cup, which was decided earlier in the year at the conclusion of the Phillip Island event.

“It was a really good year with some great battles,” Grant Sherrin said.

“Heading into the final event of the year at Bathurst, it was high stakes!

“We threw all we could at it and did the absolute best we could, and it was enough for second in the outright and class titles, and for the weekend as well.

“Of course, we would have loved to defend Iain’s outright and class titles he claimed last year, but we gave it all we had and we are immensely proud of the team – we left nothing on the table.

“When you are racing semi-professional drivers like Cameron Crick (co-driver of the #118 entry with Dean Campbell, winners of the 2024 title outright and in class) and heading into the final round in the hunt, it is that little bit harder, but we definitely tried our best and played a bit of strategy as well, while enjoying some really cool and clean battles.

“To get that last race win over them definitely felt really good! We wanted to make sure we ended the season on the best note possible, and that is what we did.”

Iain Sherrin echoed Grant’s comments, while further highlighting the performance of both the car and the Sherrin Racing team overall.

“The car and the team performed very well across the weekend, and everything went smoothly,” said Iain Sherrin.

“We had a bit of a fuel cut out issue in qualifying and were also caught up on the back of Simon Hodges (third placed for the weekend and for 2024) which stopped us from maximising a flying lap in that session, but other than that the car was flawless and it was a really good weekend overall.

“We started every race on the front row of the grid. I started the first race and got a really good start, and lead for the opening three laps, but then the M2 (#118) had a little more grunt in a straight line so they were able to get past just before a safety car set us up for a two lap dash to the end.

“In race two, held on Sunday morning, it was without hiccups for us but Crick was just that bit too quick. But when you look at racing that distance and in that traffic and against someone with such experience at Mount Panorama (Crick was the top rookie during the recent Bathurst 1000 and finished 10th outright in that event) I think we did a fantastic job to stay in touch, especially without any safety car to bunch the field up.

“Grant took the wheel in races three and four, and there were some strategy games there between both us and the #118 as to who would race in what outing, which definitely added some intrigue to our program!

“When all was said and done, I think we can all be very proud of our efforts and it was certainly great to finish out with the race four victory and a haul of trophies to take home to our supporters.”
