Grant Sherrin and the #27 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4 have raced through for the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars outright and class X round victories at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend, as the category completed its second round of the season across May 31-June 2.

Four one-hour races were held across the three days, with Grant taking home the outright and class X race wins in races two and four, while in races one and three, the #27 claimed two third outright finishing positions, as well as 2nd and 3rd in class.

It was a tight race to the round honours with it all coming down to the final race. Ultimately, the race four win saw Sherrin Racing able to claim the outright victory by a small margin and the X class round win on a tie break.

“From when we first rolled it out the car was just gripped up and went like a dream,” Grant said.

“In the two races that I was out in front by a fair bit, races two and four, it was a case of taking it easy and bringing it home, but it was hard to do that as the car was just gripped up and so easy to drive which made it so quick!

“All weekend it was like that from the very first roll out. The team did a good job on the set-up, and really well in the pit stops – there were a couple of mistakes, but we will tidy them up.

“Overall, it has been a good weekend, and it is great to come away with race wins and the round wins.”

The winning results for the #27 sees Sherrin Racing leaving The Bend with smiles on their faces, despite having a lot of work ahead of them when it comes to Iain Sherrin’s #72 Sherrin Rentals BMW M4.

Iain and the #72 were unfortunately unable to take any part in this weekend’s racing, after suffering heavy damage during qualifying.

While Iain was unhurt, the car was simply too damaged to fix at the track, although the team is confident it will be back up and racing ready for the next round of the championship.

“A heap of rain had dumped down at the start of qualifying and coming onto the main straight I hit a large puddle that I couldn’t see and some white paint and the car aquaplaned, snapping left straight into the wall before bouncing back across the track to the other wall,” Iain explains.

“I was unhurt, but the car was very damaged. We did try to cross-enter me into Grant’s car as a co-driver, but as qualifying was already complete we weren’t allowed to do that.

“I was feeling really comfortable in the car even with the rain and the car felt really good, so it was definitely disappointing for the team as I feel we could have had a good result this weekend. Unfortunately, that is car racing! Hopefully we can come back in six weeks at Queensland Raceway with the car all straightened out and make up for it!”

Sherrin Racing will next be on-track for round three of the 2024 Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars at Queensland Raceway across July 12-14.
